How to make Idly:

  •     Pick, wash and soak the daal overnight or for 8 hours.
  •     Pick, wash and drain the rice. Grind it coarsely in a blender.
  •     Grind the daal into a smooth and forthy paste.
  •     Now mix the grinded rice and daal together into a batter.
  •     Mix salt and set aside in a warm place for 8-9 hours or overnight for fermenting.
  •     Idlis are ready to be cooked when the batter is well fermented.
  •     Grease the idle holder or pan well and fill each of thm with 3/4th full of batter.
  •     Steam cook idlis on medium flame for about 10 minutes or until done.
  •     Use a butter knife to remove the idlis.
  •     Serve them with sambhar or chutney.

Rajma Dhokla

To Be Blended Into A Smooth Spinach Paste
(makes approx. 1/2 cup)
1 1/2 cups chopped spinach

½ cup chopped coriander
1  green chilly ,small chopped
salt to taste

Other Ingredients
1/4 cup rajma(kidney beans)
2 tsp ginger and green chilli paste

Pinch of sugar and salt to taste
1 1/2 tsp fruit salt
1/2 tsp oil for greasing
1/4 cup grated paneer


  • Clean, wash and soak the rajma overnight.
  • Drain the rajma and blend in a mixer adding a little water (approximately 2 tbsp of water) to make a smooth batter.
  • Add the ginger-green chilli paste, sugar and salt and mix well. Keep aside.
  • Just before steaming, add the fruit salt to the rajma batter and 2 tsp of water over it. When the bubbles form, mix gently.
  • Divide the batter into 2 equal portions.
  • Pour a portion of the batter immediately into a greased 175 mm. (7") diameter thali and shake the thali clockwise to spread it evenly into a thin layer.
  • Put the thali in steamer and steam dhokla for 5- 7 minutes.
  • Divide the spinach paste and paneer evenly into 2 equal portions and keep aside.
  • Spread a portion of the spinach paste and paneer over the partly cooked rajma batter and cover and cook for another 10 minutes or till the dhoklas are firm.
  • Cool slightly and cut into square pieces.

upma Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Rava / Sooji (Semolina)
  • 25 gms fried Cashew Nuts
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 3 Green Chillies slit sideways
  • 1 Potato chopped
  • 1 Capsicum chopped
  • 1 Carrot chopped
  • 1/4 cup Green Peas frozen or fresh
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds


Mix equal amounts of Cucumber juice and Lime juice and apply them to your face before taking bath; wait for at least 10 mins. Your complexion will improve.
