red plateThus using red color plates  may help people who are on dieting and want to reduce weight, similarly it may help people, who wants to reduce alcohol intake. In general red color represents danger, They said the colour red may encourage diners to avoid snacking because it is commonly associated with the idea of "danger, prohibition and stop" , the Daily Mail reported. The study that was taken out by a group of researchers from the British Dietetic Association has affirmed that eating in red plate and drinking alcohol in red cup reduces obesity and alcohol binging by 40%.

Study and findings

The researchers conducted few experiements. In first experiment, they enrolled 41 male students and were given option to have tea either in red or blue cup. They found that 44% people drank less in a red cup.

In second experiments, researchers enrolled 109 volunteers who were asked to have snacks from red, blue and white plates. It also revealed the same results that very few snacks got consumed from the red plate.

Experts view

Ursula Arens at the British Dietetic Association said that it happens due to a fact that the red colour is generally being associated with danger, harm and stop. So, if people would eat and drink in red coloured cup and plate then they would eat and drink less.

Ursula Arens said that by changing plates colour, one would not only get a change from those boring plain white plates but would also get good health.

They claim the discovery means the Government and  food industry could use red packaging on unhealthy foods as a deterrent – and could even use more red in pubs to prevent people drinking too much.

Well, If so, using red cutlery, would be great help in combating the obesity issue... Start using red plates to stay and maintain weight….. Would like to have your views…. share with us.

I was informed that red and yellow attracts people to eat...e.g. McDonalds.....not sure about decreasing your appetite. However, it may work for some people.

I find this study to be quite ironic considering that red plates and cups are used in hospital settings to highlight people who are malnourished and need to eat MORE!!
