aishwarya-rai---smiling-face-galleryYour fresh morning mood may get to disturb just by noticing of fine lines radiating from your corner of eyes. You may become anxious on seeing loose and sagging of skin under your eyes. All these make you feel uncomfortable, and over-conscious along with a rise of your heart beats. You may ask about it to your family members, your colleagues or even run to a dermatologist. Those fine lines are nothing, but indication that you are getting older...i.e. wrinkles.

Wrinkles are creases in the skin surface, one of the age-related skin changes. Ageing is natural process and so as the wrinkle, a part of it. Our skin contains collagen and elastin fibres, a type of connective tissues which impart strength and elasticity to the skin. As we age these fibres gets damage so the skin becomes loose and lack its suppleness.

To start with, wrinkles are generally superficial but deepen over the period of time, but timely care can control the progress.

What causes wrinkles?

  • Ageing and genetic inheritance are well known causes for wrinkles, but incidence also depends on skin texture and environmental exposure.
  • Apart from ageing, lifestyle factors like stress, anxiety, mental tension, dry skin, poor skin hygiene, and unhealthy diet precipitate the wrinkles more.
  • Wrinkle's appearance is prominent in sun exposed area, especially around eyes, mouth, nose and also neck.
  • Wrong dieting practice to lose weight can also increase the incidence of wrinkles.

Experts believe that though wrinkles are unavoidable but can be control or minimize with certain precautions. Dealing with the causes are some of the better ways to deal with wrinkles.

  • Avoid sun exposure

Excessive exposure to the sun intensifies the appearance of wrinkles. Sunrays cause premature skin ageing and increase skin pigmentation. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sun favors free radical formation, which can damage skin cells and promote wrinkles.
American Academy of Dermatology suggests a use of broad-spectrum sunscreen and protective clothing while going outside to protect from sun induced skin damage.

  • Quit smoking

Mayoclinic expert suggests that cigarette smoking increases wrinkle. Nicotin contents of cigarette narrow the blood vessels of skin resulting in reduced blood flow and nutrients supply to the skin. Moreover, chemicals from cigarette smoke damage skin by releasing an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin of the skin. Skin becomes thinner and wrinkled.
Hence quitting smoking is one of the best ways to deal with wrinkles.

  • Avoid repetitive facial expressions

Certain repetitive facial expressions like frequent squinting, smiling or frowning overworks facial muscles and weakens them over the period of time. This results in formation of groove beneath the skin surface. This groove gradually forms wrinkle.
Try to avoid frowning or squinting to reduce the wrinkles. Wear sunglasses giving 100 percent protection from ultraviolet radiations of sun to avoid sun light induced squinting.

  • Eat healthy

Healthy and glowing skin is a reflection of healthy eating habit. Skin experts always insist on eating green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. Antioxidant contents of these help to fight against free radical induced skin damage and vitamin C contents improve collagen formation.
Eating fish, especially a salmon is a great source of protein, which makes the skin younger looking and healthy.
Soy containing food protects skin from photoaging effect of sun.

  • Drink plenty water

Water maintains hydration of the body and ultimately of the skin. Water flushes out toxin and impurities from the body, keep skin glowing and devoid of wrinkles.
Drink plentty of water, fruit juices etc to maintain skin moisture and healthy skin.

  • Sleep well

Poor sleep pattern raises a cortisol level inside the body, a hormone which breaks down the skin cells. On the contrary, good sleep raises a level of human growth hormone, which increases skin cells growth, making skin thicker, elastic and less likely to wrinkle.

Your sleeping pattern can also favour wrinkles formation called as, “sleep wrinkles." Sleeping, especially on one side or with a face down for prolong period of time lead to formation of fine lines on respective cheek or chin. Sleeping on back will surely help to control wrinkles.

  • Avoid over washing your face

Frequent face washing with tap water takes off the natural barrier like oil and moisturizer that protects against wrinkles. Hence limit your face washing habit.

  • Yoga and Meditation

Yoga and meditation relax your body, make you feel calm and quiet, improve skin circulation and reduce wrinkle's appearance.

  • Dermatological treatment options

Creams, chemical peels, laser and botox are dermatological treatment modalities tried for wrinkles after consulting dermatologist.

These are simple but effective ways to overcome wrinkles problem and to have young beautiful face.
